I just want to thank ALR for bringing Jack-previously Stormy- into our family almost two years ago (February 17, 2008). Jack has grown so much and has been a blessing to our family. He has found his forever home and his forever parents and big brother. Thank you for taking care of him before he joined our family.

may need help with special-needs Lab in near future - anyone have any ideas or willing to help?

Hi everybody,

My husband and I rescued a blind male yellow Lab named Viking from Cobb County Animal Control last September. Since then, unfortunately, in addition to his blindness Viking has developed some health issues and his vet bills have exceeded $2000 in the past 6 months. Since he has a lot of loose ends in his medical profile that his vets never traced back to anything in particular, and he is an older dog (now 7 years old), we expect these health issues to recur at some point in the future. But because my husband is unemployed and I’m the sole breadwinner, our financial resources are now completely tapped out, and if the treatments for these issues continue to be as expensive as they have been, we won’t be able to afford his care, and we will have to surrender him to a rescue group that would have or could locate the resources to get the care Viking would need.

So, if worse comes to worse, Viking needs expensive treatment and we have to surrender him to someone so he can get the care he needs, do you know of anyone who could help out in any way "just in case" that day comes?

I am approaching different lab rescue groups in the area and asking them the same question and trying to get any leads or ideas that I can ... this way, when the next thing comes up with Viking, we will have our bases covered, we’ll be prepared and he will be assured of getting the care he needs one way or another, which is the most important thing.

This is, of course, assuming that his situation would be one where he'd have a reasonable chance of pulling through, otherwise of course he would need to be PTS.

Just trying to be clear-eyed and separating my emotions from the situation so he can be assured of having the care he'll be needing, when it comes time for that.

Thank you for your time,

Hello Everyone,

Atlanta Lab Rescue celebrates it’s first year this month and already we’ve rescued over 200 dogs!!!
For all of you who have adopted a dog and those who have volunteered with the organization, there
are a lot of happy pups that thank you!!! That being said, there are MANY more out there that would
like to be as lucky. The time of year and the economy has taken a toll on the shelters and they are all full. We’ve tried to gear back until we can find more help, but it’s hard to turn away. We’d like to
continue at this pace, but we need foster homes. It’s easy and rewarding. Right now we have 10 dogs coming in from shelters, so if you can help. PLEASE call me (404-307-8284) and give it a try.

Rescuing all these dogs has been an expensive undertaking so we’re throwing a party to raise money. On May 31st we’ll have the 4th annual Bark for Art again at the Galleries of Peachtree Hills. It’s a gallery crawl with great food, cocktails and live music. If you’ve never been, it’s one of the best parties of the year. For details and to buy tickets, click on the image below to access the event website. We’re adding new sponsors and silent auction items daily so keep checking. Please forward the invitation below to everyone you know and if you’d like to help at the event, please email me. There are lots of spots available.
See you there!!!
